The starting village will always have two quests: one is an optional side quest, while the other one will start the main story as well as award a recoiler for that village. Caves of Qud may seem esoteric and obtuse at face value, but beneath its high concept appearance is a deeply intricate series of procedural elements. Rewards can also be affected by choice and other factors: for example, More Than a Willing Spirit's rewards will change depending on the level of the character upon completion. Another boar nearly kills me, but my friend has no problem turning on their own kind. It turns out the animals in Qud are open to persuasion, and for a little while I run merrily along with my new boar pal. Some quests, such as Kith and Kin, can impact the future based on the outcome chosen. I keep heading east and limp through more screens, almost dying to a boar which I manage to proselytise on the turn before it gores me. you can have one follower from beguile, one from proselytize, and infinity.
Note that sometimes there are multiple methods of completing a quest. Come learn about Caves of Qud character generation and the early game. My hope was to be able to play a hunter type character with a high level bear companion. Once the quest is considered complete, the player is rewarded with experience, reputation, and/or items.
